Which Rooms Should You Complete First During a Property Renovation?

Choosing to purchase a dilapidated property and transforming it into your dream home can be an excellent project, as well as a challenging one. It does give you more opportunity to be creative and build a living space that you may choose to remain in for the rest of your life or even sell on for a profit at a later time. However, it can also take a lot of time, money, and resources to complete a project like this, and you also need to think about how you will live while these renovations are taking place. It’s not uncommon for homeowners to stay in temporary accommodation during this time, whether that is staying with relatives, in a short-term let, or even in a caravan on-site. While this can be good in the short-term, the sooner you can live in your property, the better, but you need to have these rooms finished before you can do that.

When any structural work and things like wiring and plumbing have been fixed in your house, you can then move on to fleshing out your living space and focus on sprucing up the interiors. If you do want to move into your home sooner rather than later, the first room you should focus on completing is the bathroom. While you might be able to shower at places like the gym or a close friend’s house, for the time being, this isn’t always comfortable or practical. Having the bathroom finished first will allow you to at least carry out basic grooming and personal hygiene in your living space, even if you are still relying on take-out food and dining out at restaurants to feed yourself.

  • The Kitchen

Speaking of food: the next room you should finish when you are doing a full property renovation is the kitchen. Even though you can source food easily enough, as mentioned above, this can be expensive, so you might find that you want to cut these costs down as soon as possible. Furthermore, the kitchen is one of the most important areas in a property, and a lot of people even consider it to be the heart of the home. If you want this space to be extra-special for you and your family, look at some bespoke luxury kitchens so that you can have the perfect cooking and dining area to enjoy.

  • The Master Bedroom

Having a comfortable place to sleep is also important, and although you can make-shift a simple bedroom once the house is in a suitable condition to live in, it will be much better once you have completed refurbished and decorated this area. If you have children living with you, making their bedrooms a priority as well as yours is also key so that they have a pleasant space to enjoy and rest each night.

If you are planning to renovate an entire property to create your perfect living space, make sure that you prioritize these rooms so that you can move in as soon as possible, even while the rest of the home needs finishing.
